• Top Technical Support: Segmentation Violations and How To Report Them

    Thank you for your contact!

To help us troubleshoot a Segmentation Violation crash, please send us the files necessary to determine what was going on in the client at the time. You will find these files in the home folder for There on your computer.

When you see a Segmentation Violation crash, it will print an error to your screen. It will say:

    Segmentation Violation
    Object:
    Module:

You just need to write down what appears in the error window which says "Object" and "Module". You can either screenshot it, or write it down by hand, or copy it into Notepad on your computer.

Once you have the information, either by screenshotting it or copying the text down by hand, you may close the client. You can do this by clicking cancel.

(If you did not happen to get the error message copied down, that's fine. Just send us the crash dump files instead.)

After the client has closed, please locate the crashdump files which contain a memory image of what the client code was doing at the time:

    - Go to Start Menu -> "Run..."
    - Type "C:\Makena\There\ThereClient" in the "Open" box and click "OK"

(Be sure to include the quotes)

    - In the window that comes up, please look for all files which have the word "crashdump" in the name.

You may want to put the crash dump files in a zip or rar archive, but it is not absolutely necessary. The easiest way to compress the files using Windows XP is to put them into a folder on your desktop, and then right-click on the folder, choosing "send to" and "compressed folder". This will create a new file on your desktop that is a compressed copy (Zip file) of the folder you put the files in.

To get this information to us, please click on "Ask a Question" in the help system to open a support ticket and you may attach the crash dump information to the ticket. Please be sure to include both the error message and the crash dump files.

Thank you for all your help, and we apologize for any trouble this may cause for you in getting the crash information to us!
